Re: Naval Stuka

Quite right, a single carrier operating with a shoe string escort force in the North Sea would be a good target practice for the FAA. Also considering the problems faced by Bf 109 pilots with their...

Re: Naval Stuka

The BF 109 had a high accident rate on shore with with the narrow under carriage. I suspect the first deployment of the GZ would have seen most BF 109 lost to accidents. Goering would have been...

I doubt it was worse then USN F4F and it's narrow track landing gear. However there's a learning curve to CV aviation.1941 IJN A6M had wide track landing gear. USN F6F had wide track gear during 1943....

Re: Naval Stuka

Bf.109 high accident rate on shore is due to looping - problem with tail draggers; Messerschmidt seems to have had more issue than most (was issue with Bf.110, 210, 410 too). But you can't ground loop...

Re: Naval Stuka

How was its drag factor? The "inverted gull wing" on the Corsair was specifically to reduce drag at the wing-fuselage interface, and overall it was a very low drag aircraft. That significantly affects...

Re: Naval Stuka

The Fw-187 seems to be an aircraft where Germany really missed the boat. And yet with it's performance known and more powerful engines online it makes you wonder why they didn't dig it out later on....

Re: Naval Stuka

One of many boats 1930s Germany missed.  In case of Fw-187 I think Goering's unwavering support for Me-110 zerstorer was the culprit. In his mind Me-110 worked just fine as long range day fighter so...

Re: Naval Stuka

I have never been a big advocate for the Fw-190 and Fw-187 in place of the historically selected A/C for GZ. Part of the issue I have with them is their very high landing speed.Carrier A/C during ww2...

Re: Naval Stuka

My thinking is what's the purpose of a German CV? You don't attack convoys with a CV, that's what submarines are for. The proposed complement for GZ was 12 fighters & 30 dive bombers. So, you've a...
